How to use colour in film

This article was very helpful in teaching me the different ways that colour can be used to add another level of depth to my films. Whether they be short films or feature lengths, I will be considering the use of colour whilst writing my future scripts, as recommended in this article.

I've been a long term admirer of aesthetically pleasing frames in movies, however, am now becoming even more interested in the subliminal effect colour has to an audience.

I'm also interested in how some colours can have a double meaning, such as red meaning danger or love. My favourite from this list is yellow representing sickness as this could be used to foreshadow an event or add extra depth to a scene that takes place in a yellow room.

Colour can be used to fill in the gaps and show the audience information rather than telling them with dialogue. I will be using this in the future as it will allow me to develop my visual storytelling skills, rather than relying on dialogue to tell my stories.
