The OSCARS are an outdated way of determining the greatest films of the year.

I think it is important as a Filmmaker to stay up to date with the work that is being nominated, and more importantly, winning awards, as you could then watch these recognized pieces of work and analyze them, to see what made them stand out.

There are many categories of the OSCARS that focus on each department of a Filmmaking Crew. Therefore, if you want to become a Cinematographer then you could research what films are winning best picture, and use those as inspiration for your future work. Likewise, if you wish to Direct, Design or Write, then there will be a category for you to dive deeper into.

However, not everyone watches the OSCARS and not everyone votes for their favorite films, it is instead the Academy that decides for us, what we should watch. But how can we combat this?

Well there are many more awards to be won than the OSCARS. Here are a few that I've researched: Golden Globes: Critics Choice: Grammys: BAFTAs: NAACP: SAG: Independent Spirit Awards: Nickelodeon Kids Choice: GLAAD: MTV Movies and TV: Tony Awards:

By combining all of these award shows and comparing the winners and nominees in each category, we are able to determine accurately what the best films of the year were.

Since the Golden Globes and BAFTA's have passed already, I'd love to know which of these future shows you're most looking forward to!
