Tim Burton: Directing Style

As I continue to grow as a young director, I've started to consider whether I should now focus on finding a particular style or genre that I can be known for.

Tim Burton has such an iconic style that gets him recognised and forms almost a fan-base that will continue to watch his films. This is something I am aiming to achieve.

But should my search for a style, trump the need to be collaborative?

I wonder how successful directors are that don't have a specific style but instead create passion project films. I'd like to be the type of director to explore many themes but still have an underlying style that connects my work.
